19th Century Prints and Photographs

One of the largest segments of the Kiplinger Collection is nineteenth century graphic art.  These etchings, engravings and lithographs by publishers such as Currier and Ives, Harper’s Weekly and lithographers Charles Magnus, Edward Sachse and Casimir Bohn illustrate scenes of daily life and events that shaped the history of Washington, D.C.

The photography holdings in the Kiplinger Collection date from the Civil War era and include images by Mathew Brady, Alexander Gardner, C.M. Bell and lesser known photographers such as James Meek.
